Hi, I'm Dave - the carpenter and creator behind Ryla's Room. My passion for bespoke children's spaces started with my own daughter Ryla, and has grown into a business built entirely on word-of-mouth and happy families across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.
Every project I take on is completely unique. I visit your home, understand your space and your child's personality, and design something that fits perfectly - both practically and imaginatively. No flat-pack, no compromise, no two builds the same.
I specialise in creating rooms that children grow up in and never want to leave - and spaces that parents are genuinely proud to show off.
We had Dave in to do my daughter's bedroom. He transformed it into a 5 year old's princess palace! He worked with the awkward loft space and from start to finish brought the vision to life - full days, very clean, communicating throughout. He literally did everything: skirting, painting, building, doors, accessories, wardrobes. We were so impressed we immediately rebooked him for my son's room. He created a Dino room with the same professionalism and talent. Prices were reasonable for the amount of work!
Absolutely outstanding! Went to Ryla's Room with a vision and Dave 100% delivered! He built in useful storage to optimise the space whilst still being fun for the kids, and fitted brand new doors. Now we have a room that both kids (1 and 7) and us can enjoy! Dave was meticulous with every element and so easy and friendly to work with. Honestly, cannot recommend enough!
We first worked with Dave on our daughter's small box room with an unusual shape and a slope from the stairs. Dave came up with a fabulous design incorporating the slope into a desk and bookshelves. He suggested the scalloped edges which our daughter loves - she calls them her rainbow edges! The under-bed lighting is just the perfect finishing touch to make the space magical.
For our son's room, Dave was absolutely fantastic. Our son has ADHD and Autism and Dave was incredibly patient - allowing him time to process ideas and ensuring he was 100% happy with the design. Each day our son would come home and check on progress and Dave would patiently walk him through everything. The climbing wall is a wonderful addition and he wakes every morning and climbs across it with a huge smile on his face!
During both builds Dave worked long days and was clean, tidy, friendly and trustworthy. We would highly recommend Dave to anyone and will not hesitate to contact him again. Thank you for creating two magical bedrooms.

Every project is completely unique, so pricing depends on the size and complexity of your build. We don't believe in fixed packages - you get exactly what works for your space, your child and your budget. The best way to get an accurate figure is to get in touch for a free, no-obligation consultation. We're always happy to discuss what's achievable within your budget.
It really depends on the scope of the project. A straightforward bed build typically takes around a week, while more elaborate designs with slides, dens or climbing features can take up to two weeks. For larger transformations - where we're changing multiple features, adding wardrobes or doing a full room overhaul - it can be three weeks or more. Whatever the job, we work full days throughout, keep disruption to a minimum, and always give you a clear timeframe upfront so you can plan around it.
Safety is at the heart of every build. All structures are built to British bunk bed safety standards - covering guard rail heights, ladder spacing and structural integrity. We only use child-safe, low-VOC paints and high-quality materials throughout. Every build is solid, stable and built to last - you'll have complete peace of mind.
Absolutely - and honestly, awkward spaces are where bespoke carpentry really shines. Sloped ceilings, alcoves, loft rooms, small box rooms - we love a challenge. Some of our favourite builds have been in rooms that no off-the-shelf furniture could ever work in. We design everything around your exact space so nothing goes to waste.
Yes, and it's something we take great care with. We understand that for some children - particularly those with ADHD, Autism or sensory sensitivities - their bedroom is an especially important space. We take as much time as needed to involve your child in the process, listen carefully to their specific needs, and make sure they feel comfortable and excited every step of the way. Their room should feel like their safe haven.
Yes - every build is designed with your child's future in mind, not just where they are now. Bed heights, desk surfaces and storage are all sized to accommodate years of growth. The structures themselves are built from premium materials to last the lifetime of the home. Many of our clients come back for a second build when a sibling is ready!
It starts with a free home visit where we measure the space and talk through your ideas. We then put together a design for your approval - we go back and forth until you're completely happy. Once agreed, we'll agree a build start date and take care of everything from there, including all painting, fitting and finishing touches!
Yes - we offer a complete structure removal service for a flat rate of £500. This includes full dismantling and removal of the build, plus repair and repainting of the walls, leaving the room clean and ready for whatever comes next.
